"Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance"     - Carl Sandburg

Hi. I'm John Richter.  Welcome to my page and thank you for visiting.

This blog, and my other one at Wordpress, are kept for the purpose of sharing my poetry.  I hope that you will take a few minutes to read some of my writing.

Poetry has been with me all of my life. I am a "self-professed" poet, meaning that I think of myself as a poet.  But the truth is that only you, the reader, decides what poetry is.    I hope that you will take a moment to write a note in critique of what you find on this blog.  Or just to say "Hi!"  I love making friends.

Poetry is so many different things to so many different people.  Carl Sandburg's quote above is probably the most beautiful description of poetry I have ever seen.  But poetry goes much deeper than that, I think.  It's rooted in the soul, it is as much a part of the poet as is anything else.  Another poet, Natasha Head of dversepoets.com refers to it as "bleeding words."  That is an accurate description of this passion we have.

Again, please spend a moment to comment on what you find here.  Also, you can always find me on Facebook or send me an email.  I absolutely welcome any poetic enthusiasts, poets, bards, prose artists, word smiths, or as Miss Head refers to us, "word bleeders."  If you are a friend of poetry, then you have a friend here..........

I'd like to leave you with the following image because I love Emily Dickinson.  Though I love many poets, living and dead, Emily is the first true poet that ever touched my life.  (Except for Dr. Suess, of course.)   So I created this image by retouching the only photo of Emily I think in existence, colorizing it, and as a background using the home she spent her entire life in.  Than you for visiting..
